The Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has promised not to obstruct the work of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) monitors at the militants-controlled section of the border with Russia.

“OSCE monitors have been traveling to the border. We have ensured their security, but have not hampered their work, and do no plan to do so,” Eduard Basurin of the DPR Defense Ministry told Interfax on Thursday.

Basurin offered his comments in response to media reports that German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation that it was necessary to ensure OSCE monitors’ long-term access to the conflict area in Donbas, including Ukraine’s state border.
