The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Zurab Alasaniya as director general of the National Television Company of Ukraine (NTCU), the government's press service has reported.

Alasaniya’s candidacy was offered by representatives of the media community. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk met with them before a government meeting on Tuesday morning. The nomination was submitted based on their proposal, reads the report.

Alasaniya is a journalist, founder and director of the Kharkiv-based MediaPort news agency.

As reported, on March 18, Svoboda MPs forced acting NTCU Director General Oleksandr Panteleimonov to write a letter of resignation. The Ukrainian authorities and the media community condemned such actions.
