Internally displaced persons, who as a result of Russian aggression lost homes, jobs and property, will be able to sue the Russian Federation in the European Court of Human Rights or national courts and claim reimbursement for damage, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk has said during a working trip to Kharkiv.

“We will launch a new initiative so that temporarily displaced persons, who as a result of Russian aggression lost homes, jobs, property, could bring legal proceedings against Russia in the European Court of Human Rights or the national court and demand compensation for damages caused by Russia with respect to each family, each citizen,” Yatsenyuk said.

The prime minister said today mainly temporarily displaced persons face problems in Ukraine, and at present 1.3 million such people have been registered.

During his visit to Kharkiv, the premier visited the local center for providing free secondary legal assistance, which will launch a pilot project to assist temporarily displaced persons. According to Yatsenyuk, these centers will be engaged in assistance to citizens in formalizing documents to obtain subsidies.
