You're reading: Yarema: Businessman Akhmetov questioned over Maidan events, financing of terrorism

Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine investigators have interrogated businessman Rinat Akhmetov as part of the investigation into the Maidan events of last winter, and over alleged financing of terrorism, Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema has reported. 

“Concerning citizen Akhmetov, he was questioned by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine regarding two topics: this is his relation to the Maidan events, and also under request of MP Iryna Heraschenko on financing terrorism [to corroborate claims that Korolevska and Yefremov were involved in the financing of the government’s armed opponents in eastern Ukraine],” Yarema said at a briefing in Kyiv on Feb. 2.

He said that all the necessary answers were received by the investigators.

The prosecutor general added that the PGO is currently verifying information concerning accusations made by the deputy of Severodonetsk city council against Akhmetov, alleging that he tried to pay Aidar battalion personnel to leave the heat and power plant in the town of Schastia, Luhansk region.
