The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy Viktoria Siumar is counting on the parliament to approve the necessary amendments to create public TV in the first reading of the bill by the end of the year.

“Creation of a public [TV] broadcasting is of the top priority for our committee. We’ll take every means necessary to make the amendments to the law to launch the public [TV] broadcasting. In the first reading, we will approve the bill before the New Year, and we’ll adopt it afterwards via a streamlined procedure. This is what [we] have agreed upon as of today,” she said at a press conference in Kyiv on Dec.15.

Siumar also said that her committee would become a communication platform for the development of the bill on denationalization as well as the bill on foreign broadcasts.
