The United Nations Development Programme, together with the European Union, will support communities renovation projects in eight regions in eastern Ukraine that are now considered relatively safe, and will help towns hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) to prepare for the upcoming winter.

‘We have revised our plans for this region (East of Ukraine) to respond to the crisis and help the people caught in this difficult situation,’ said UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine Inita Paulovica during her visit to the town of Severodonetsk, some 95 kilometers from Luhansk.

She visited the region to launch the next stage of the EU/UNDP project ‘Community Based Approach to Local Development’ (CBA), which will bring the local communities over $700,000 to support local recovery projects, since an armed conflict in Luhansk and Donetsk regions in eastern Ukraine has caused great damage to the economy, the social infrastructure is ruined, and people are suffering.

UNDP will shortly start the competitive selection process for the regions wanting to participate in the project.
