The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) plans by Dec. 15, 2014 to restore all strategically important infrastructure in eastern Ukraine using own funds, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia has reported.

The press service said that this was discussed at a meeting of representatives of Pivdenna, Prydniprovska and Donetsk railways on restoration of destroyed infrastructure under management of Krasny Lyman railway transportation directorate held on Oct. 24.

As of Oct. 27, 2014, railways are not able to transport cargo in full due to damages and some directions do not operate at all.

An advisor of Ukrzaliznytsia Director General Viacheslav Pakhomov said that Ukrainian army suffers most of all. The army does not receive cargo, which is carried by rail and which the success of army operations depends on.

Losses caused to railway transport during armed hostilities have not been calculated in full within the territory of Krasny Lyman railway transportation directorate.

Types of restoration work and concrete sections have been distributed between railways at the meeting.

A task to restore facilities of Krasny Lyman railway transportation directorate by Dec. 15 and the most important one by Nov. 15 has been set.

According to tentative data, damage caused to the railway sector due to armed hostilities amounts to some Hr 1 billion. A total of 571 facilities worth Hr 61.5 million have been restored.
