Ukrainian border guards and customs officers cleared 34 trucks carrying Russian humanitarian aid on Aug. 21, the press service for the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reported on Aug. 22.

“The total weight of the cargo is over 260,000 kilos. It’s composed of cereals, salt and water,” the Ukrainian State Border Service has reported.

Two of the 34 trucks are carrying medication, the report says.

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service also reported that the humanitarian cargo has not been handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Earlier on Aug. 22, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the Russian humanitarian convoy was beginning to move in the direction of Luhansk.

ICRC spokesperson Anastasia Isyuk said ICRC officials are not accompanying trucks from Russia’s Ukraine-bound humanitarian aid convoy on the territory of Ukraine.

An Interfax correspondent has reported that a column of 34 KamAZ vehicles had crossed the Ukrainian border at the Izvaryne checkpoint.

The headquarters of the militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic told Interfax the Russian trucks heading to Luhansk are accompanied by militia.

A source in the Ukrainian authorities told Interfax the Russian trucks had started moving without being accompanied by ICRC officials and without the approval of the Ukrainian authorities.
