The Ukrainian Red Cross Society has received humanitarian aid worth 649,000 euros that will be distributed between Donetsk and Luhansk regions and areas with large numbers of refugees from the Donbas.

A ceremony to mark the delivering of the aid was held in Red Cross office in Kyiv with the participation of German Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil.

“A symbolic delivery is taking place today. The process of delivery started over a month ago, as we met the convoy, we cleared entry customs, took [the aid] to warehouses, and worked with the cargo. All this was done by Red Cross volunteers,” Director of Rapid Action Team of Ukrainian Read Cross Society Taras Lohinov told reporters.

According to Ukrainian Red Cross Society, cargo worth 649,000 euros will be distributed between Donetsk and Luhansk regions and areas with the majority of refugees and injured persons (Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions).

According to Lohinov, seven cars that have come to Ukrainian Red Cross will be sent to regions; while wheelchairs and crutches will be delivered to Red Cross medical-social centers.

In addition, the Ukrainian organization received manikins from their German counterparts. The manikins will be used to teach citizens how to provide medical first aid. The Ukrainian Red Cross also received helmets, uniforms for volunteers, outfits for Red Cross rescuers, blankets and 15 suitcases with medical intruments, particularly, ALV devices and devices for pumping fluids out of lungs, face masks and bandages.

According to Lohinov, only Red Cross volunteers or ambulance service personnel with specialized training in providing first medical aid will work with this humanitarian aid.

The Red Cross also received 30 large tents. Volunteers are to set up two portable first aid stations in the anti-terrorist operation zone near Mariupol (Volnovakha district, Donetsk region) and in Schastia (Luhansk region).

The Ukrainian Red Cross noted that this was the second batch of humanitarian aid delivered in 2014. The German Red Cross Society has already sent humanitarian cargo worth 240,000 euros to Ukraine.
