On Dec. 15, international public organization "Internews-Ukraine" presented the results of Media Freedom Index for the six Eastern Partnership countries in the second half of 2014, a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The research was conducted as a part of EU-funded project “Media Freedom Watch in the Eastern Partnership countries”.

According to Index findings, Georgia and Moldova traditionally ranked first and second places respectively. Ukraine claimed third position, again ahead of Armenia. Azerbaijan and Belarus came in fifth and sixth places respectively.

Jurgis Vilcinskas, Head of Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, stressed that Ukraine is expected to hold comprehensive democratic reforms, including in the area of media freedom. He believes that electoral legislation needs to be improved, in particular in terms of media role.
