You're reading: Ukraine guarantees security for Russian aid convoy only on territory controlled by Ukrainian army

Ukraine is ready to provide security for the Russian humanitarian aid convoy heading to eastern Ukraine, but only on territory controlled by the Ukrainian army, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

“As we already mentioned, militants themselves and Russia, who control them, brings all responsibility for the security of this cargo over the territory controlled by the terrorists. Ukraine, in turn, has many times confirmed its readiness to provide security guarantees and provided them on the territory that is under control of the Ukrainian ATO forces,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said in Kyiv at a briefing on Aug. 19.

For this reason the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) must reach agreements with Russia and the militants regarding security issues on terrorist-controlled territory, he said.
