Brussels - Ukraine has confirmed that it has the funds needed to pay for 4 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas, Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak said at a press conference after the trilateral gas talks in Brussels.

Russia will give Ukraine a discount of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas for the period from November 2014 to May 2015, he said.

Within the next few days, Ukraine will transfer $1.45 billion to Russian gas giant Gazprom’s accounts, and another $1.65 billion before the end of the year as part of Kyiv’s efforts to pay off debts for gas, Novak said.
