You're reading: Ukraine by 2020 could cut gas consumption by 5 billion cubic meters via its substitution

The implementation in Ukraine of stimulating measures to replace natural gas with other types of fuel will allow the country to reduce its consumption by 2020 by 5 billion cubic meters (bcm), which will decrease by Hr 8.6 billion budget spending on compensation to Naftogaz Ukrainy for the difference between the purchase price of imported gas and that supplied to heat generating enterprises for heat production for the needs of the population. 

 These data were released by the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Services, with reference to the head of the department of housing policy, Yuriy Osypets.

“Work on the upgrading of existing boilers, installing modular boilers, automated control systems, re-equipment of boilers for using solid fuel, installing heat pump units, using alternative energy sources, using electrical energy for heating, introducing cogeneration technologies at the facilities is being conducted in all regions of Ukraine,” he said during a round table entitled “The initiation and implementation of investment projects for the replacement of natural gas with alternative and renewable energy sources” in Vinnytsia on Aug. 29.
