Ukraine has asked Belarus to study the possibility of transiting gas via its territory from Lithuania, Head of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's department for European integration Mykhailo Bno-Airiian said on Twitter.

He said that Ukraine’s desire to receive gas from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipeda (Lithuania) via Belarus is registered in the protocol signed after a meeting of the Ukrainian-Belarusian intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation held in Chernihiv on July 23 and July 24.

“The issue is very complicated, as the Belarus’ GTS [gas transport system] belongs to Gazprom. However, we asked Belarusian friends to study the possibility,” he wrote.

He said that both sides agreed to hold consultations and discuss the technical possibility of transit of Ukrainian electricity via Belarus.
