You're reading: Ukraine appeals to WTO as for Russia’s banning plant produce imports and transit

Ukraine has appealed to the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning Rosselkhoznadzor's introducing from Oct. 22 of a ban on the supply and transit of plant products from Ukraine to Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food has reported.

According to the report, the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine believes that the Russian side violated the provisions of the bilateral agreement and international standards for phytosanitary measures because Ukraine has not received official complaints from the country regarding the non-compliance of the produce to phytosanitary requirements.

“We’ve sent a relevant letter to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, which, in turn, has appealed to the WTO request processing center,” reads the document.

As reported, on Oct. 22 Rosselkhoznadzor imposed temporary restrictions on the shipments from Ukraine, including transit through its territory, of all kinds of plant products that are subject to surveillance.
