You're reading: Tymoshenko: Batkivschyna ready to join coalition of democratic forces (UPDATE)

Former prime minister of Ukraine and leader of Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union, Yulia Tymoshenko, said her political force is intended to join a coalition of the democratic forces.

“Batkivschyna party is ready to participate in the coalition of the democratic forces in the newly-elected Verkhovna Rada. The coalition must unite all five parties elected in Rada,” she said at a press conference in Kyiv on Oct. 28.

Batkivschyna does not claim a single seat in the new Ukrainian government, she said.

“Our team does not claim a single ministerial portfolio. We believe it’s time not to talk about portfolios but to urgently consolidate, coordinate principles on which we work, and compile a list of priority reforms that need to be implemented,” she said.

Batkivschyna would urge the new parliament to repeal parliamentary immunity and Ukraine’s non-aligned status.

“In our view, the Rada’s first steps should be the adoption of such decisions as depriving all our top government officials of immunity, continuing the lustration, annulling Ukraine’s non-aligned status, and launching a real crackdown on corruption,” she said.
