You're reading: Two killed by artillery fire at coalmine in Dzerzhynsk, Donetsk region – police

The town of Dzerzhynsk in Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine was shelled with artillery guns early on Saturday, and the bodies of two civilians were found on the territory of an idle coalmine in the morning, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's department for the Donetsk Oblast reported.

The artillery strike upon Dzerzhynsk and its outskirts was started at about 0:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, the department said. The body of a watchman and another man with shrapnel wounds were found at an idle coalmine in the morning.

An investigative team from the Dzerzhynsk city police department is working at the scene, and information on casualties and damage has yet to be clarified.

Heavy artillery was also used on Friday evening to shell the town of Andriyivka, Volnovakha district, wounding a woman and three men, who were hospitalized, it said.

The village of Solodke, Maryinka district, was also shelled, injuring two local civilians, who were hospitalized as well, it said.
