You're reading: Two civilians killed in artillery fire in Donetsk

Two civilians have been killed and three people have sustained shrapnel wounds in as a result of artillery fire in Donetsk by midday on Wednesday, Sep. 17, Donetsk City Council said.

“Fierce fighting has continued near the Donetsk airport since morning. The fighting resulted in more serious damage to infrastructure and harm to residents of Kyivsky district. Fires broke out at impact sites and were being tackled by local teams from the Ukrainian Emergencies Situations Ministry. The explosion wave smashed part of windows in houses,” the spokesperson said.

In the private-property sector, several houses are on fire, but the continuous shelling has prevented firefighters from reaching the area.

Massive artillery shelling of the northern part of the Kyivsky district led to damage to gas pipelines. Emergency teams from DonetskCityGas were able to contain the incidents on several streets and main gas pipelines.
