Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said there have been fewer attacks by militants since the quiet regime was introduced on Dec. 9.

After inspecting the anti-terrorist operation zone on Dec. 18 evening, Turchynov said that starting from Dec. 9 the number of attacks on Ukrainian army positions “has diminished significantly,” the NSDC press service said.

On average there are between eight and 20 attacks a day, he said.

The most critical situation remains near the towns of Debaltseve (Donetsk Oblast), Schastia (Luhansk Oblast) and near Donetsk airport, the NSDC secretary said.

Turchynov also said that the Ukrainian military continue holding their lines and block any attempt to change configuration on the line of contact.

Turchynov was in the war-trn zone to meet with senior members of the General Staff, National Guard and the Interior Ministry, as well as heads of military units, the NSDC press service said.
