Members of unlawful armed groups carried out a series of attacks in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in southeastern Ukraine last night, Information Resistance group coordinator Dmytro Tymchuk said on his Facebook account.

“In particular, an assault was staged on a checkpoint jointly manned by border guards and “anti-terrorist” operation forces near the village of Oleksiivske [the Amvrosiivka district, Donetsk region]. Ammunition stored at the checkpoint exploded as a result of grenade launcher fire,” he said.

“A checkpoint of “anti-terrorist” operation forces located at a road turn toward Krasny Lyman and Sloviansk was attacked as well. Government forces fired in return. About a dozen soldiers were injured,” Tymchuk said.

A Ukrainian Border Guard Service spokesman, for his part, confirmed that over 30 government forces soldiers had been injured in Amvrosiivka district.

“The strongholds of border guards and the Armed Forces of Ukraine came under heavy mortar fire near the village of Oleksiivske from 0200 to 0240 last night. The attack involved eight mortars,” the spokesman said.

An armed clash ensued, as a result of which 31 servicemen were injured, including 11 border guards. One injured border guard and a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier, who sustained serious wounds, were airlifted to the hospital by helicopter, he said.
