Moscow - The State Duma Council has refused to support A Just Russia faction leader Sergei Mironov's proposal to include a draft statement, entitled "On genocide in the southeast of Ukraine", in the agenda for the chamber's Friday session, on July 4.

“The Duma Council has decided not to debate such a statement at the plenary session,” the press service of the State Duma’s A Just Russia faction said on Thursday, July 3.

This initiative was rejected by the chairman of the chamber’s Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Compatriot Liaison, Leonid Slutsky, the press service said.

Slutsky said that “this problem really exists and it needs to be discussed.”

“However, adopting such a statement at this stage may harm the ongoing four-party negotiations on Ukraine in Berlin,” the faction’s press service said, referring to Slutsky.
