Ukraine may set up a special economic zone in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which will be pattered after the one in Crimea.

“Such an option is possible. The pattern of Crimea could be used,” Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak said in the air of the First National TV Channel.

In his words, the government is elaborating different options to handle the uncontrolled territories in Donbas.

“We yet proceeded from the fact that Ukraine would be able to retain control of that region. Now we have to review our policy there,” he said.

He said the government had already taken special measures in keeping with the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to stop financing the territories controlled by pro-Russian militants. The ministry charges all due payments but doesn’t transfer them to recipients.

Speaking about the situation on the forex market, the finance minister said economic grounds for the strengthening of the hryvnia exist, but they are affected by panic moods.

In his words, the authorities are not in command of tools able to suppress the panic.

“If the panic stops, we’ll see the bounce of the forex rate back to Hr 13 [per U.S. dollar]. It’s impossible to stop the panic [at the moment],” Shlapak said.
