You're reading: Soros, Ukrainian parliamentarians discuss national economic recovery

During his visit to Ukraine, billionaire and investor George Soros met with a number of the country's parliamentarians to discuss the creation of a National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the fight against corruption and the creation of an insurance fund for direct foreign investment, said Hanna Hopko (Samopomich Party), who chairs the Ukrainian parliamentary committee for foreign affairs.

“A meeting was held with Mr. Soros. Here is a brief of what was discussed: the election of a chairperson of an anti-corruption bureau and the efficiency of fighting corruption in Ukraine, cooperation among the presidential administration, the government, the cabinet and the parliament,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Jan.12.

The meeting also focused on the work of the National council for reform and the public participation in it, the importance of the judicial reform and the registered bills, how to restore the economy (into one of innovative type) and create a fund for insurance of direct foreign investment in Ukraine; cooperation with international organizations, Hopko said.

The meeting with Soros was attended by parliamentarians Oleksiy Riabchyn (Batkivschyna), Viktoria Siumar (People’s Front) and Mustafa Nayyem (Petro Poroshenko Bloc), Hopko said.
