The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) has drafted a bill on returning to the country the assets which have been withdrawn abroad by former officials, prosecutor general Viktor Shokin has said.

According to the PGO press service, during a meeting with U.S. ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt on Monday, Shokin said that the aforementioned bill would be submitted to the parliament soon.

“However, the prosecutor general said he hopes that U.S. would probably get involved in returning these assets to Ukraine,” said the report.

Shokin told Pyatt that progress has been made regarding trial and sentencing in absentia.

“Four criminal cases against former officials have already handled to the courts, an extra three [are] to be submitted in the near future,” he said.

In turn, Pyatt draw attention to the importance of holding an inquiry into crimes committed during Revolution of Dignity, as well as inquiries into the cases of former officials as well, and the general need to fight corruption, which Pyatt said was one of the greatest threats faced by Ukraine.
