Ukrainian President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Petro Poroshenko has appointed Serhiy Drozdov as the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The relevant decree was signed and posted on the president’s website on July 20.

According to media reports, Lt. Gen. Drozdov served as acting commander of the Ukrainian Air Force in 2013. In August 2014, he was engaged in negotiations with the U.S. military on assistance in equipping Ukrainian military aircraft with protection against enemy air defenses.

In the autumn of 2014, as part of the lustration of the Defense Ministry, Drozdov was transferred to the reserve. On March 20, 2015, he was reinstated.
