You're reading: Security tightened in supermarkets, markets in Kharkiv Oblast

Kharkiv - Security has been tightened in supermarkets, markets and other public places in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. 

The decision was made in a meeting of the operative headquarters chaired by Ihor Baluta, the head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, on Jan. 25.

“The participants of the meeting decided to enforce additional security measures in public places such as supermarkets, markets and entertainment centers. A decision has also been made to install additional surveillance cameras in these places, the press service reported.

The report says that Interior Ministry units and Pivdenna Railway security personnel are working at railway stations, road junctions and bridges. In addition to this, the authorities are continuing to work with volunteers and charity organizations, collecting and sending humanitarian aid to the city of Debaltseve, Donetsk region. Patrols have intensified in Kharkiv and central districts of the Kharkiv region.

“According to Ihor Baluta, the situation in the region is stable,” the report says.

During the meeting, a decision was also made to hold a meeting on the region’s defense capability in Volchansk (the Volchansky district of the Kharkiv region borders of the Belgorod region of Russia), to which top executive administration, local self government officials, law enforcement officials, and businessmen will be invited.
