The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has launched criminal proceedings against Russian citizen, actor Mikhail Porechenkov, due to his participation in terrorist activities.

The case was opened under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation of a terrorist group or organization), according to the Friday statement by the SBU.

Earlier, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the investigative department in his ministry had opened criminal proceedings against Porechenkov under Part 4, Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (participation in paramilitary or armed formations unforeseen by the law, punishable by 7-12 years in prison).

According to Avakov, investigators are confident that after the court rules to arrest Porechenkov, Interpol will actively support arrest warrant for Porechenkov, so that he won’t be able to travel outside Russia without being arrested and extradited to Ukraine.

Earlier, a video was posted on the Internet on which militants and Porechenkov during the latter’s visit to Donetsk opened fire from a large-caliber machine gun in the direction of the Donetsk airport, which is held by Ukrainian troops.
