Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Yuriy Serheyev has welcomed a resolution adopted on Monday, July 21 at a UN Security Council meeting regarding the crash of a Malaysian aircraft in eastern Ukraine.

“We believe that this resolution will help conduct an independent
investigation into what happened,” he said after the adoption of the
resolution.

He noted that after the crash of the Malaysia Airlines plane Ukraine
had immediately invited experts from the ICAO, the affected countries,
as well as Russia, to the investigation. According to the diplomat, some
of them have already arrived in Ukraine and started their work in
Kharkiv.

“We appeal to Russia to use its influence on illegal armed groups in
Donetsk region so that they cease illegal actions and give international
experts an opportunity to get to the crash site,” Serheyev said.

He said that Ukraine was interested in an objective investigation, which will determine the perpetrators of this tragedy.
