You're reading: Russian patriarch won’t go to Kyiv for Metropolitan Vladimir’s funeral

Moscow - With Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia's blessing, the funeral of the deceased Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine (Moscow Patriarchate) will be attended by member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, who has flown out to Kyiv," Vladimir Legoida, head of the Synodal Information Center, told Interfax on Sunday, July 6.

In view of the current situation in Ukraine, the Russian patriarch’s arrival could turn the funeral service for Metropolitan Vladimir “into a pretext for the radical force’s renewed action,” Legoida said.

The Russian patriarch “cannot allow anything like this to happen, letting the funeral of a person, who had devoted his life entirely to the Church and who had been a pacemaker all his life, bring in outbursts of hatred and dislike instead of peace,” he said.
