You're reading: Russian-backed insurgents shell Azov regiment in Shyrokyne using tanks

The militants along toward evening opened fire on Azov regiment positions in the village of Shyrokyne near Mariupol with mortars and automatic grenade launchers, and then used machine-guns, Azov press service said.

“Twenty minutes ago terrorists again opened fire on Azov positions with mortars and grenade machine guns attempting to provoke our fighters on backfire demonstratively for the OSCE,” reads an Azov official page in Russian social network VKontakte at 5.04 p.m.

Later on, at 6.27 p.m., the press service wrote that the militants again “shell Shyrokyne with machine-guns, grenade machine guns and small arms, bombardment also doesn’t stop.”

At 7.37 p.m., the page said the militants shelled Azov with tanks.

“The terrorists also carry dense fire on the residential areas of Shyrokyne and Berdianske with 120-mm caliber mortars,” the press service said.
