MILAN - Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has emphasized the importance of the observance of the Minsk agreements for overcoming the crisis in Ukraine.

“We share the fundamental principles, which are that the second Minsk agreement is a reference point for the conflict settlement. Everyone is working on fully fulfilling the second protocol [the Minsk agreements of February 12, 2015] and overcoming the crisis in the territory of Ukraine,” Renzi said after negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Milan.

“We have also discussed complex issues relating to the Mediterranean and Libya [the steps taken by the European Union to counter illegal migration from Libya to Europe through the Mediterranean],” Renzi said.

The Italian prime minister also said he intends to continue exchanging opinions with the Russian leader during the G20 summit, which will take place in Turkey in the fall. “We will meet with President Putin in November in Turkey at the G20 summit, which will enable us to discuss international issues. Big changes are now taking place in world economy,” Renzi said.
