Brussels - NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has stressed the importance of launching a full international investigation into the crash of a Malaysian airliner in Donetsk region of Ukraine.

“It is important that a full international investigation should be
launched immediately, without any hindrance, to establish the facts and
that those who may be responsible are swiftly brought to justice,”
Rasmussen said in a statement released in Brussels on Thursday, July 17.

He said that much was unclear about the circumstances of the crash,
but the instability in the region, caused by Russian-backed separatists,
had created an increasingly dangerous situation.

Rasmussen also said that he was profoundly shocked by the tragedy.

“I offer my sincerest condolences to the families and the loved ones
of the victims and to all those touched by this terrible tragedy,” he
said.
