The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has passed legislation enabling public officials to collect charity funds "to improve the country's defensive capability."

The bill amending Article 7 of the Ukrainian law On Charity Activities and Charity Organizations concerning charity donations was passed by 238 out of the 315 lawmakers who signed in a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The current version of the law forbids public officials or civil servants as well as individuals acting on their behalf to publicly collect charity donations.
