You're reading: Putin: Authorities should react harshly to factors leading to ethnic conflicts

Inaction by officials or crimes, which might provoke ethnic conflicts, require harsh reaction, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a Russian Security Council meeting on July 22.

During the meeting Putin set priority tasks, which will guarantee Russia’s security and sovereignty.

“The first one is consistent work on enhancing inter-ethnic accord. Expert migration policy. Harsh reaction by officials, their inaction, or crimes, which might provoke ethnic conflicts,” the president said.

Due to this, civil society should take an active stance and react to violations of human rights and freedoms, Putin said. “So it contributes to the prevention of radicalism and extremism,” the president said.
