Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin at a meeting with a delegation of the European Union Political and Security Committee informed on the operation of the Military Prosecutor's Office and on the creation of the department to investigate crimes against peace, security, humanity and international crimes.

‘Ukraine is in war now, in war with terrorists, which operation is tightly linked to Russia. Assistance that the European Union and the United States provide supports us a lot. But, unfortunately, Russia does not observe Minsk agreements in full and hinders peacemaking,’ the press service of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGO) reported on Friday, citing Shokin.

He said that the issue of releasing Ukrainians-prisoners of war, in particular, pilot and Memeber of Parliament Nadia Savchenko.

He also informed on the reformation of Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, the creation of the anticorruption prosecutor’s office and thanked representatives of the European agencies for their aid.

First Deputy Prosecutor General Yuriy Sevruk briefed on the reformation of Public Prosecutor’s Office in line with the provisions of the new law on Public Prosecutor’s Office, introduction of tenders to select prosecutors and candidates for administrative posts in Public Prosecutor’s Office and the introduction of the prosecutor self-government system.

In turn, Head of the European Union delegation and Chairman of the European Union Political and Security Committee Walter Stevens thanked Shokin for the start of the reformation of Public Prosecutor’s Office.

‘We, 28 representatives of the European Union, arrived to Ukraine to support independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of your country. We’re here to show that we welcome all your efforts aimed at conducting historical reforms,’ Stevens said.

The sides expressed confidence in fruitful and constructive cooperation in the future.
