The government has initiated the introduction of amendments to the Ukrainian constitution that would foresee a three tier court system in Ukraine, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has stated.

“We’re initiating [introducing] the amendments into the Constitution, in particular, an introduction of a three-stage court system, where the Supreme Court of Ukraine will finally obtain the right of the highest judicial authority in Ukraine, as is foreseen by the Constitution” the premier said during a cabinet meeting on Dec. 9.

He said that it is important to realize the court reform so that judges work fairly and transparently.

“Our task jointly with the parliament and Ukrainian president to pass a new law on the status of judges and judicial system and the complete re-attestation of all judges of Ukraine,” he said.

The premier added that under the court reform it is planned to facilitate some judicial procedures and access of Ukrainian citizens to the court system.

“Amendments to all procedural codes of Ukraine will be sent to the parliament,” he said.
