Thousands of people in Kyiv joined the Unity March.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported that a multi-thousand column of people moved from the Shevchenko park to Maidan on Jan. 18. People were carrying Ukrainian flags and placards saying “Je suis Volnovakha” in memory of the passengers of a bus that came under attack at a roadblock in Volnovakha in eastern Ukraine on Jan. 13.

The column was led by clergymen, public figures and politicians. The procession ended in Maidan where representatives of the main religious communities of Ukraine started a joint service for the people who died in Eastern Ukraine.

The event involved President Petro Poroshenko and his wife Maryna, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, leader of Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko, Verkhovna Rada MPs and Cabinet ministers. Many of them, including the president and the first lady, were carrying “Je suis Volnovakha”-placards.
