Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is planning to propose the establishment of a constitutional commission that will submit proposals on the introduction of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

“Next week I am going to propose the creation of a constitutional commission, whose main goal should be the introduction of amendments to the Constitution in 2015, and their major goal should be the decentralization of power,” he said, while speaking to students in Lublin on Dec.18.

Poroshenko mentioned Poland’s experience of decentralization as important.

“We should not only analyze but also implement Poland’s experience in Ukrainian realities, so that local government bodies and territorial communities have real powers to change life for the better,” he said.

Poroshenko also said an agreement had been reached during his ongoing visit to Poland on close cooperation between different ministries, on holding a joint meeting of the two governments, and on cooperation between regional authorities.

“I am sure everything will be okay in this regard as well,” he said.
