“Our checkpoints came under fire after my visit was announced at 1.30 p.m.,” Poroshenko said on Twitter.

According to Poroshenko’s press officer Sviatoslav Tseholko, the president is already in Mariupol, where he has met with local residents. “We will not give this land to anyone,” Tseholko quoted Poroshenko as saying on Twitter.

A bilateral ceasefire was declared in Donbas on Sept. 5. In the meantime, both sides periodically accuse each other of ceasefire violations.
