You're reading: Poroshenko grants scholarships to children of journalists killed in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the decree on granting scholarships to the children of reporters Serhiy Nikolayev and Dmytro Labutkin who were killed in the conflict in Donbas.

“The scholarships have been assigned to Valeria Kravchuk (born in 1995) and Kira Labutkina (born in 2010),” the president’s press service reported.

Serhiy Nikolayev was a war correspondent for Segodnia newspaper. He died in Pisky, Donetsk region in February 2015.

Dmytro Labutkin, Deputy Editor of TV and Radio Company “Briz,” was working in the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone when he went missing in February 2015. Subsequently, militants released a battle video which also showed Labutkin’s corpse near destroyed equipment. The militants also showed the personal documents of the deceased in the video.
