Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko said that 17 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed since the ceasefire was announced.

“Since the starting date of the ceasefire, Ukraine has lost 17 lives of Ukrainian soldiers, 67 were injured, and that is during the ceasefire. This is the price Ukraine is paying for peace,” he said during his speech at the United States Congress on Thursday, Sep. 18.

On Sep. 5 members of the Ukraine-Russia-European Union Contact Group met in Minsk with representatives from the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics and signed a protocol whose main point stipulated an immediate ceasefire in eastern Ukraine. The ceasefire was introduced at 6 p.m. Kyiv time on the same day.
