You're reading: Parliament passes bill on experiment of using customs duties to finance repair of roads

The Ukrainian parliament has passed at second reading a draft law on amending the Budget Code of Ukraine regarding an experiment in Odesa, Volyn and Lviv regions to finance the reconstruction and current maintenance of state general-use roads.

A total of 234 lawmakers supported the draft law on Sep. 4.

According to an explanatory note to the draft law, it is intended to provide for financing the reconstruction of the I-15 Odesa-Reni highway, current maintenance of the H-17 Lviv-Radekhiv-Lutsk road, the Lviv-Skole section of M-06 Kyiv-Chop road, and the T-14-24 Skole-Slavske road.

A total of 50% of the sum of over-target monthly indicative customs payments collected for customs clearance of goods in Odesa, Volyn and Lviv regions has been earmarked.

The amendments will take effect on the first day of the month that follows the month when the law is published, and will be declared void on Jan. 1, 2017.
