A group of monitors from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Special Monitoring Mission (OSCE SMM) to Ukraine did not record violations of a ceasefire in Shyrokyne and its outskirts last night.

“During the time between 11 p.m. and 11:22 p.m. and between 11:45 p.m. and 12 a.m. the SMM heard artillery duels at a distance of approximately 10 km north of its position. During its overnight stay in Shyrokyne, the SMM did not register any ceasefire violation in or around the village of Shyrokyne,” the SMM said in a report circulated on April 18.

The ceasefire in Shyrokyne was holding continuously for 59 hours, the SMM said.

The SMM said its unmanned/unarmed aerial vehicle (UAV) “hovered over Shyrokyne and environs” throughout the night to update the monitors on the situation in the area in real time.

The mission said it had access to Shyrokyne for six days in a row.

Alexander Hug, deputy chief monitor of the SMM, said on Friday that monitors from the mission were planning to stay in Shyrokyne overnight for the first time.
