Brussels - Ukraine is facing the task of doing an enormous job before considering joining NATO, says Victoria Nuland, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia.

The U.S. long-term position – of both Republicans and Democrats – is that any country in the Euro-Atlantic region has the right to choose its allies, she said.

However, Ukraine has to do an enormous job to strengthen its economy and democratic institutions and it should now focus on this job, Nuland told a Brussels forum, commenting on the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO.
