National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy has resumed imports of gas from the European Union (EU) via Poland, the press service of public joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“Under a contract signed by Naftogaz Ukrainy and RWE, an application
to transit gas from April 15 was submitted to Ukrtransgaz. The
application is being implemented,” the press service said.

Germany’s RWE Supply & Trading confirmed the plans to resume
supplies of natural gas to Naftogaz Ukrainy via Poland on Tuesday.

The German company said that gas supplies to Ukraine are based on the
European wholesale prices of gas, including expenses on gas delivery.
RWE also said that in 2013, the company supplied around one billion
cubic meters of gas to Naftogaz Ukrainy.

As reported, Naftogaz Ukrainy from November 2012 started importing
natural gas from Germany via Poland under contracts with RWE
Supply&Trading GmbH. From April 2013, Ukraine started natural gas
supplies from Hungary. Negotiations have begun with gas transport
operators from Slovakia and Romania on the possibility of their
delivering natural gas to the Ukrainian gas transport system.

In 2013, Ukraine imported 2.132 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Europe.
