Serhiy Savchuk has been appointed Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.

The corresponding decision was formalized in a decree of Cabinet of Ministers No. 758 dated Aug. 20, 2014, which was published on the government’s Web site.

Savchuk was born in 1974. In 1997 he graduated from National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI), where he majored in Production Management; and in 2003 he graduated from the National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.

He worked as a department head in the Economy Ministry, was deputy head of the energy policy department in the secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, deputy head of the National Commission for State Energy Regulation of Ukraine, and a member of the supervisory board of the national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy.

In 2012, Savchuk was advisor to then Prime Minister Sergiy Tigipko, and in 2013 he became his consultant. Since January 2014, Savchuk has been a member of TAScombank’s supervisory board. He is a member of the expert council of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine.

As reported, Oleksandr Taran, who had headed the energy saving agency since January 2014, was fired from the position by the governmental decree No. 631, dated July 11, 2014.
