Former Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, MP Mustafa Jemilev, has been banned from entering Russia, including Crimea, for five years, the Mejlis press service reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, early on April 22, Jemilev and Mejlis Deputy
Head Aslan Omer Kyrymly left Crimea for Kyiv. When crossing Crimea’s
administrative and territorial border with Ukraine, Jemilev was handed
an act of notice banning his entry to the Russian Federation.

“We, the undersigned, drafted this act stating that under a
resolution banning entry to a foreign national, No. 140 13-1087 of April
19, 2014, Mustafa Jemilev, born on November 13, 1943, a citizen of
Ukraine, was denied entry to the Russian Federation under Clause 1,
Article 27 of the federal law on the procedure for exiting and entering
the Russian Federation for a period of five years until April 19, 2019,”
reads the act, a photo of which was released the press service.

According to Jemilev, entry into Crimea has recently been denied to
representatives of many international organizations and diplomats,
whereas now the decision handed to him is “nothing more than an
indication of what kind of ‘civilized’ state we are dealing with.”

The leader of the Crimean Tatars also said that regardless of any “decisions” he would go to Crimea.

According to the press Mejlis service, on Tuesday Jemilev plans to
meet with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and the Bank of America director
in Kyiv.
