Luhansk region state administration head Hennadiy Moskal has proposed a special self-governing status for 80 populated localities.

A report posted on Moskal’s personal website said he had sent a letter to Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov listing cities, towns and villages of the Luhansk region requiring a special self-government regime.

A copy of the document sent to the parliamentary speaker was published on Moskal’s Web site. It lists 80 populated localities, including the urban-type settlements of Novoaidar and Luhanske, Bakhmutivka, Popasna and Schastia in three districts of the Luhansk region – Novoaidarsky, Stanytsia Luhanska and Popasniansky.

In accordance with the Law on the Special Local-Government Regime in Some Districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, the Verkhovna Rada will approve the list of populated localities to enjoy this special self-governing status.
