Moscow - It's high time for a new meeting on Ukraine in the "Normandy format," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“I think it’s high time for a meeting in the ‘Normandy format.’ I have suggested to my colleagues, the foreign ministers of Germany and France, that some joint steps should be urgently taken to prevent the situation from deteriorating,” Lavrov told reporters in Moscow on March 19.

“We know that parliamentarians in Russia, Germany and France are voicing such concerns, too,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov did not rule out the elevation of the meeting.

“At this point, there is a common understanding that a meeting in the ‘Normandy format’ at the level of deputy foreign ministers may take place next week, but, bearing in mind the difficult situation, I do not rule out that this level may be elevated,” Lavrov told a press conference on Thursday.
