BRUSSELS - Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics has said that the current situation with security in Europe caused by events in Ukraine is the gravest since 1930s.

“Back in Riga after informal EU FMs meeting in Milan, clear understanding that situation is the gravest since 1930s, some ideas what to do,” he wrote on his Twitter account on Aug. 30.

Rinkevics also said that he called on EU colleagues to defend human rights of Crimean Tatars on the level of UN and OSCE.

“We have to act both as EU and individual states,” Latvian minister wrote.
